Katie Elizabeth Jackson, founder and board president of the Pontotoc County Animal Rescue and Shelter, told The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that she has received nearly 60 calls about missing pets in the past week.

Jackson said most were unaltered pets that people let outside. And she said many of the missing dogs are pit bulls. She's worried that people are taking pets to use as fighting dogs.

She said that most people also tell her they don't have any ID on the animal's collar.
